A day's wage is the actual monthly wage ÷ 30, because the law counts a month as 30 days (Article 2).
Worked example: leaving with a balance
Actual wage SAR 9,000 (basic 6,000, housing 2,250, transport 750). Joined 1 March 2024, last day 30 June 2026, 18 days left from earlier years, nothing taken since 1 March 2026.
- This service year runs from 1 March 2026: 122 days × 21 ÷ 365 = 7.02 days.
- Balance: 18 + 7.02 = 25.02 days.
- Day's wage: 9,000 ÷ 30 = SAR 300.
- Leave salary: 300 × (18 + 21 × 122 ÷ 365) = SAR 7,505.75.
On the basic wage only, the same days would be worth SAR 5,003.84, about SAR 2,500 less, which is why the wage used matters.

The law says leave for part of a year is paid "in proportion" (Article 111). This calculator counts each service year from your joining date and uses days ÷ 365. From your 5th anniversary the rate goes up to 30 days.

Other leave since 2025
The 2025 amendments changed some other leave too: 5 days for marriage or the death of a spouse or close relative, 3 days for the death of a brother or sister (new), 3 days for the birth of a child (Article 113), and 12 weeks of maternity leave instead of 10 (Article 151). A public holiday that falls inside your annual leave adds a day to it.

How is leave salary calculated in Saudi Arabia?
Actual monthly wage ÷ 30 × the leave days. "Wage" in the Labor Law is the actual wage, basic plus allowances (Article 2), and a month is 30 days. An actual wage of SAR 9,000 with 18 days left gives 300 × 18 = SAR 5,400.
How many days of annual leave do I get in Saudi Arabia?
At least 21 days a year, and at least 30 days once you have worked 5 years in a row for the same employer (Article 109). Your contract can give more.
Is unused leave paid when I resign in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Article 111 pays the unused days and the part of the year you worked, whoever ends the contract.
Can I sell my annual leave for cash in Saudi Arabia?
Not while you are employed. Article 109 says you may not give up your leave or take cash for it during your service. Cash is paid only for the balance when the job ends.
Is leave salary paid on basic or total salary in Saudi Arabia?
On the actual wage, which includes the allowances, because the Labor Law defines the wage as the actual wage (Article 2). Some employers use basic only, which pays less.
How many leave days can I carry forward in Saudi Arabia?
With the employer's approval, leave can move to the next year. The employer may postpone it by up to 90 days, and with your written consent to the end of the following year at most (Article 110).
Are the 21 days working days or calendar days?
The law says only "days". Check your contract and enter your balance as your employer counts it.
Do I get leave in my first year in Saudi Arabia?
Yes, in proportion. Article 111 pays leave for parts of a year. 4 months at 21 days a year is 7 days.
Is leave salary paid before the leave?
Yes. Article 109 calls it prepaid annual leave, so the pay for the days is due before you go.
