The basic wage is the rate paid for your work plus annual increments only (Article 1(10)). The full wage adds the allowances, such as housing and transport (Article 1(11)). The law sets no day divisor, so this calculator uses the monthly wage ÷ 30, the usual practice and the same as our Qatar gratuity calculator. Some employers divide by 52 weeks instead (monthly × 12 ÷ 52 × 3), which gives about 1% less.
Worked example: a balance of 21 days
Basic wage QAR 6,000, housing QAR 2,000. The contract ends with 21 days of leave left. A day's basic wage is 6,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 200, so the leave salary is 200 × 21 = QAR 4,200.00. Housing is not counted unless the contract says leave is paid on the full wage: then it would be QAR 5,600.00.
Worked example: leaving part way through a year
Basic wage QAR 4,500. Joined 1 January 2023, last day 30 April 2026, all leave of the first 3 years taken. The new service year started on 1 January 2026, so it has 120 days.
- Leave earned: 21 × 120 ÷ 365 = 6.9 days.
- Day's basic wage: 4,500 ÷ 30 = QAR 150.
- Leave salary: 150 × 21 × 120 ÷ 365 = QAR 1,035.62.

This calculator counts each service year from your joining date and uses days ÷ 365. From your 5th anniversary the rate goes up to 28 days.

Common mistakes
- Adding housing and transport to the leave pay because a website said gross. The law uses the basic wage (Article 72); only your contract can give more.
- Counting 21 working days. The law gives weeks, so the rest days are inside them.
- Carrying over a whole year. Only half can move, and only at your written request (Article 80).
- Signing away leave for cash while you keep working. That agreement is void (Article 81).
- Mixing the 3 weeks of gratuity with the 3 weeks of leave. They are two separate rights.
Public holidays are separate: 3 working days for Eid al-Fitr, 3 for Eid al-Adha, 1 for National Day and 3 set by the employer, on full pay (Article 78).

How is leave salary calculated in Qatar?
Basic monthly wage ÷ 30 × the leave days. Article 72 says pay for annual leave is worked out on the basic wage on the date it falls due. A basic wage of QAR 6,000 and 21 days gives 200 × 21 = QAR 4,200.
How many days of annual leave do I get in Qatar?
At least 3 weeks a year with under 5 years of service and at least 4 weeks from 5 years (Article 79). Counted 7 days a week, that is 21 or 28 days. Your contract can give more.
Is leave salary in Qatar paid on basic or gross salary?
On the basic wage, by law (Article 72). Allowances such as housing and transport are not part of it. If your contract pays leave on the full wage, the contract applies because it gives more (Article 4).
Are the 21 days in Qatar working days or calendar days?
The law gives annual leave in weeks, so the weekly rest days fall inside it: 3 weeks are 21 calendar days. Public holidays are counted in working days, but they are a separate leave (Article 78).
Is unused leave paid when I resign in Qatar?
Yes. Article 81 pays cash for the leave days due when the contract ends for any reason, including resignation and dismissal.
Can I sell my annual leave for cash in Qatar?
The law does not provide for it while you keep working. You cannot give up your leave, and an agreement to do so is void (Article 81). Cash is paid when the contract ends.
How much annual leave can I carry forward in Qatar?
Up to half of a year's leave, to the next year, and only at your written request (Article 80). The employer sets the dates and may split the leave into at most two parts with your consent.
Do I get annual leave in my first year in Qatar?
Leave is earned after one full year of continuous service (Article 79), and parts of later years count in proportion. Whether a worker who leaves before 12 months is paid for the months worked is not clearly stated, so the calculator shows it as an estimate.
Is leave salary paid before the leave in Qatar?
Yes. Article 68 says the employer pays the wage earned up to the start of the leave and the leave pay before you go.
Can I be dismissed while I am on leave in Qatar?
No. The employer may not end the contract or give notice during any leave, or give notice that would end during a leave (Article 85).
