Only the wages owed use the full wage. Leave, notice and gratuity use the basic wage, because Articles 49, 54 and 72 say so. A contract that gives more still applies (Article 4).

Worked example: you resign and serve the notice

Basic wage QAR 5,000, full wage QAR 7,000. Joined 1 March 2023, last day 31 October 2026 (1,341 days, 3.67 years). Two months of notice served, October's wage of 30 days unpaid, 10 leave days left.

  • Wages owed: 30 × 7,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 7,000.00.
  • Unused leave: 10 × 5,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 1,666.67.
  • Gratuity: 5,000 ÷ 30 × 21 = QAR 3,500 a year × 1,341 ÷ 365 = QAR 12,858.90.
  • Final settlement: QAR 21,525.57, due before the end of the next working day after 31 October.

Worked example: the employer ends it at once

Basic wage QAR 8,000, full wage QAR 11,000. Joined 1 January 2020, last day 29 December 2025 (2,190 days, 6 years at 365 days a year). No notice given, so 2 months (60 days) are owed. 15 days unpaid and 14 leave days left.

  • Notice pay: 60 × 8,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 16,000.00.
  • Gratuity: 8,000 ÷ 30 × 21 × 6 = QAR 33,600.00.
  • Unused leave: 14 × 8,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 3,733.33.
  • Wages owed: 15 × 11,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 5,500.00.
  • Final settlement: QAR 58,833.33.

Worked example: you leave 10 days into the notice

Basic wage QAR 4,000. Joined 1 January 2025, last day 30 June 2026 (546 days, under 2 years, so 1 month of notice). You stop working 10 days in, so 20 days are not served.

  • Gratuity: 4,000 ÷ 30 × 21 = QAR 2,800 a year × 546 ÷ 365 = QAR 4,188.49.
  • Notice owed to the employer: 20 × 4,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 2,666.67.
  • Final settlement: QAR 1,521.83, due within 7 days because the notice was not served (Article 67).

Leaving without notice also matters for your next job: a migrant worker who leaves Qatar without following Article 49 may not get a new work permit for a year.

Common mistakes

  1. Cutting the gratuity on resignation, as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait do. Qatar's Article 54 has no such cut.
  2. Paying notice on the full wage, or saying 2 months only after 5 years. That was the text before 2020.
  3. Waiting "one week" for every settlement. Article 67 gives one working day, and 7 days only when the worker skipped the notice.
  4. Leaving out unused leave because the worker was dismissed. Leave is paid when the contract ends for any reason (Article 81).
  5. Adding a cash ticket. The law gives the journey home, not money, unless your contract says otherwise.

Each part on its own: Qatar gratuity, Qatar leave salary and Qatar overtime. The rules in plain words: final settlement in Qatar and notice period in Qatar.

Questions

What is included in a final settlement in Qatar?

Wages not yet paid, the cash for unused leave (Article 81), the end-of-service gratuity of at least 3 weeks of basic wage a year (Article 54), notice pay if the notice was not given (Article 49), and anything else your contract gives. The employer may set off what you owe from the gratuity (Article 54).

When must the final settlement be paid in Qatar?

Before the end of the working day after the day the contract ends (Article 67). If the worker left without giving the notice of Article 49, the employer has up to 7 days from the day the worker left.

Is notice pay in Qatar on basic or gross salary?

On the basic wage. Since Decree-Law 18 of 2020, Article 49 sets the compensation at the basic wage for the notice period or the part of it not served. Pages that say full salary use the old text.

What is the notice period in Qatar?

One month in the first two years of work and two months after the second year (Article 49, as amended in 2020). Our notice period guide has examples.

Do I get gratuity if I resign in Qatar?

Yes, with at least one year of service. Article 54 has no cut for resigning. It is lost only on dismissal under Article 61.

Can my employer deduct from my final settlement in Qatar?

The employer may take from the gratuity what you owe it (Article 54). Deductions from wages are limited: a loan at most 10% of the wage, with no interest, and all deductions together at most 50% (Article 70).

Do I get a ticket home at the end of my contract in Qatar?

Yes. The employer must return you at its cost to the place you were recruited from, within 2 weeks for a non-Qatari. If you join another employer in Qatar first, the new employer takes over this duty (Article 57). It is travel, not a cash amount.

I signed a full and final settlement. Can I still claim?

A waiver or settlement of the rights the law gives you is void (Article 4). Signing a "full and final" form does not take away the legal minimum.

What if my employer does not pay?

File a complaint with the Ministry of Labour. A dispute goes to the Labour Dispute Settlement Committees. Wages must reach your bank account in Qatar (Article 66).
